Engine OverTemperature

The engine is getting too hot, which can cause damage if it doesn't cool down.

The engine control unit (ECU) is monitoring the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT) signal, expecting it to stay between 190°F to 220°F (88°C to 104°C). Anything above that can trigger the fault code.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Check coolant level in the reservoir and radiator. Is it low?
2. 2 - Yes: Refill coolant and check for leaks.
3. 3 - No: Go to step 2.
4. 42. Inspect visual condition of hoses and radiator. Do you see any leaks or bulges?
5. 5 - Yes: Repair or replace as needed and retest.
6. 6 - No: Go to step 3.
7. 73. Check the operation of the thermostat. Is it opening when the engine heats up?
8. 8 - No: Replace thermostat and retest.
9. 9 - Yes: Go to step 4.
10. 104. Verify the operation of the water pump. Does it circulate coolant effectively?
11. 11 - No: Replace water pump and retest.
12. 12 - Yes: Go to step 5.
13. 135. Check for blockages in the radiator or cooling passages. Are they clear?
14. 14 - No: Remove blockages and retest.
15. 15 - Yes: Further diagnostic needed, consider ECU faults.
